What to Expect

What can you expect when you work with Break Trail Solutions?

For starters, we offer all new clients a free 30-minute initial consultation. At this meeting we’ll get to know each other a bit, and discuss your needs and goals. Schedule your initial consultation here, or click on a program area tab below to learn more about our service offerings:

Win a Government Contract

Free Checklist: Use our free checklist with links to sites where you’ll need to register or provide documentation so that you’re eligible for and prepared to submit a proposal.

Capability Statements: We can help you create a capability statement that you can use as a template for agencies and proposals that require one. Expect a couple of conversations and a request for information from us. We can typically turn around a request within a few days.

Bidding Strategies half-day session: This will be a facilitated meeting with key members of your team who will be involved in the proposal process. We’ll focus on differentiators, areas of opportunities, and proposal approaches. By the end of the session, your team will know whether or not to pursue a specific opportunity and how to better identify future opportunities.

Full day session: Determine requirements, deliverables, develop the schedule, identify contributors, review teams, and determine if there are any gaps that could jeopardize the process.

If you don’t have a professional proposal manager on staff, this is your first proposal, or you have submitted but never won a contract, we can provide an experienced proposal manager or coach to facilitate the entire process. Most mid-size companies have a full time, professional proposal staff for a reason. Can your already fully employed staff compete with that? The answer is, generally, no.

Full proposal facilitation: Begin with the full day session listed above. In addition, we’ll manage the schedule and content (we do not write the content – that will always come from your experts), track deliverables and requirements, lead team reviews, provide final edits and formatting.

Costing and compliance reviews: Add in a review of your costing proposal and ensure you meet FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations) regulations. If you have a costing team, we can facilitate planning for and a review of costing against the drafted proposal.

Execute Government Contracts

New contracts

Half-day session: We’ll use this time to review the contract and work with your contract team to develop a plan that ensures top contract performance. Outcomes may depend on the size of the contract, and size and experience of your team, but may include a project plan with deliverables, identified resources, and schedules. We’ll also identify resource gaps and areas with the highest opportunities.

Per hour: We can also support preparation for negotiations, financial or HR audits, and HR assessments.

Ongoing contracts:

Contract/project assessment: Typically this will be a half-day session where we’ll review the contract, current status, outline areas of highest opportunity, and develop a project plan.

Implement recommendations: Our consultants can work with your team to implement tools, templates, and best practices identified in our assessment.

Two-hour session: This initial meeting will include a review of the contract requirements, current status, staffing, and leadership. Larger contracts may require additional time.

Half-day to full-day session: Once we’ve identified where the contract status stands, we’ll meet individually with members of the team to review contract requirements and identify bottlenecks. We  can then provide a high-level summary of the issues and prioritized recommendations for getting the contract back on track.

Two hours session: We’ll use this time to determine the level of support you’re looking for, which areas you want to focus on, a rough schedule. If the work is tied to a specific contract, we’ll start with a contract assessment or status discussion.

Half-day session: At a facilitated meeting with members of the team you identify, we’ll outline goals and identify key issues to address. We’ll determine availability of key resources and resource gaps.
